Linux is an open-source operating system. An operating system is a software which manages the hardware system of laptops and desktops. One of the major advantages of Linux is that it is an Open Source operating system. Its source code is easily available for everyone. Any person who is capable of coding can modify, enhance and distribute the code to anyone.


Linux is considered to be one of the most flexible OS. It can be used for high performance server applications, desktop applications, etc. A user can install only the required components for a particular use. Or s/he can also restrict the use of specific computers.


Linux is one of the most secure operating systems. Through features like file ownership and permissions Linux is considered very secure.


Compared to other operating systems Linux has very high stability. The performance level is very good and it does not require rebooting very often. It rarely freezes up or slows down.

Linux provides various advantages over other OS and that is one of the main reasons as to why it is used in most of the fields these days. Linux is considered flexible, scalable and robust operating system. It is suitable not only for programming but has other uses as well.
